Management and Organizations Competencies
What you'll be ready to demonstrate.
All Management and Organizations degree programs are designed to develop the following AI-proof competencies. While individual courses may emphasize certain skills more than others, all are cultivated throughout the course of study.
Adaptive Leaderhip
AI can rapidly process and retrieve information, but it cannot demonstrate personal growth, resilience, curiosity, or the human capacity to learn from lived experience and adapt purposefully to changing environments. You will develop the ability to continuously learn, grow, and respond effectively to change. Learn to seek feedback, acquire new knowledge and skills, remain resilient in uncertain environments, and adapt quickly to evolving technologies, industries, and organizational challenges.
Creative Problem-Solving
AI can generate ideas, analyze large amounts of information, and identify existing patterns, but it struggles to navigate ambiguity, challenge assumptions meaningfully, and create truly original solutions grounded in human insight and contextual understanding. You will develop the capacity to generate innovative and practical solutions to complex challenges. Learn to approach problems from multiple perspectives, think critically and creatively, adapt to change, connect ideas across disciplines, and develop solutions that create value for organizations and society.
Culturally Intelligent Professionals
AI can translate languages and provide information about cultural norms, but it cannot genuinely understand lived experiences, interpret subtle social dynamics, or build meaningful cross-cultural relationships. You will develop the capacity to work effectively across diverse cultures, identities, and perspectives. Learn to approach differences with openness and respect, adapt communication and behavior across contexts, value diverse viewpoints, and leverage diversity to foster collaboration, innovation, and global understanding.
Emotional Intelligence
AI can analyze sentiment, recognize communication patterns, and provide behavioral insights, but it cannot genuinely understand human emotions, build authentic trust, or demonstrate empathy and compassion. You will develop the ability to understand and manage your own emotions while recognizing and responding effectively to the emotions of others. Learn to build trust, navigate conflict constructively, communicate with self-awareness, foster psychologically safe relationships, and support others with empathy, care, and emotional understanding.
Ethical Decision-Making
AI can optimize for programmed objectives and evaluate large datasets, but it cannot independently determine what is morally right, balance competing human values, or exercise principled judgment in complex ethical situations. You will develop the ability to make thoughtful, principled decisions that consider organizational goals alongside broader social, environmental, and human consequences. Learn to evaluate ethical dilemmas, act with integrity and accountability, balance stakeholder interests responsibly, and lead with fairness, humility, and ethical responsibility.
Relationship Building
AI can facilitate communication, organize networks, and automate interactions, but it cannot form authentic human relationships grounded in trust, mutual respect, and shared experience. You will develop the ability to create, strengthen, and sustain productive professional relationships. Learn to collaborate effectively, build trust across teams and communities, communicate respectfully, manage interpersonal dynamics constructively, and leverage diverse perspectives to achieve shared goals.
Strategic Thinking
AI can analyze trends, forecast outcomes, and process complex information quickly, but it cannot fully account for human behavior, organizational culture, uncertainty, or the nuanced tradeoffs involved in long-term decision-making. You will develop the ability to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities, and align decisions with long-term organizational objectives. Learn to think systematically, evaluate complex environments, connect short-term actions to broader goals, and lead effectively in dynamic and uncertain contexts.
Competencies are developed across the full course of study; individual courses may emphasize certain competencies more than others.
