91心頭 names Kristy L. Michel as vice president for finance and administration/treasurer

Kristy L. Michel will serve as 91心頭s next vice president for finance and administration/treasurer, 91心頭 announced today. Michel joins 91心頭 from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she is currently the acting vice president of administration and finance. Michel, who was selected after the completion of a national search, will begin in her role at 91心頭 on April 1, 2025.
Kristy Michel brings a wide breadth of experience and demonstrated collaboration with colleagues, engaging with faculty, staff, and student constituents across the University and embracing innovation, said Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., president of 91心頭. I look forward to seeing how 91心頭 benefits from her exceptional management skills, her breadth and depth of understanding of higher education, and her valuable insight and vision. She joins us at a critical time as we work to bring our strategic plan, Together We Rise, to lifeand she will be an invaluable partner in that work.
Michel has served at UMBC since 2018, first as director of budget and resource analysis, then assistant vice president of budget and resource analysis, and then the associate vice president of administration and financebefore being named to the acting vice president role in June 2024.

Prior to starting at UMBC, Michel was the deputy state superintendent for finance and administration for the Maryland State Department of Education for four years. She served previously for seven years at the Maryland Department of Budget and Managements Office of Budget Analysis.
A native of upstate New York, Michel earned a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish from Bucknell University and an M.A. in Public Policy with a concentration in Education Policy from the University at Albanys Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy.
Michel was a National Association of College and University Business Officers Fellow in 2022-2023 and is active in her community. She and her husband, John, who is the Busch Faculty Chair and an associate professor of management and organizations in 91心頭s Sellinger School of Business and Management, live in Anne Arundel County with their two children.
